Travel

Going to be a busy couple of months.  Next week I get to go to Boise for work.  Then for Christmas we're going to Indiana for a week.  Then mid-January, I get to go for Lincoln for work.

Crazyness.  At least work pays for some of that. I get to pay for the Christmas vacation, but boy do I need it.

Computers - love and hate them

The stupid main computer can't see the CD drive.  tried a few things i found on the internet, and all that did was lock up the computer forever and made me reboot it a bunch of times.

finally working again, but still no cd drive.

bah.

Happy Dance

I have a laptop again.  It's not exactly my old one, and i have to reinstall everything, but all kinds of things can happen now :)

For a day off, it was a busy day

Waited for the package, then had the gutters cleaned and repaired, trimmed the evergreen and pine trees, and cut down some more saplings, then made a dr appt for the new insurance (not till 11/2 - guess he's busy!), then went to the drug store and gave them the new insurance, then went to dinner at Noodles, then grocery shopping at Target, and now I'm home.

I'm going to watch some Star Trek, and play on the computer and enjoy the rest of my 'day off'. :)

Bleh

Paying medical bills isn't fun.  At least we're almost caught up.

And surprising, two of them don't have online bill pay.  This is the 21st century!!!

Yep, it's fall

the 'auto' temp in the car has started putting out heat instead of a/c, and we've had to put a quilt on the bed.

Won't be long before we have to turn on the heater in the house.  And then shoveling and firing up the snowblower.  Have to save money this year and not have a service.  Which kind of sucks, but not much of a way around it.

Houses

After watching some of these buying houses and fixer upper shows, i wonder if my taste is out of date.  I see people going through a house that I think 'oh that's nice', and they all say 'that has to go' or 'that's terrible'.

I must be disconnected from what's 'hip'.

At least we're going on vacation this weekend to a wedding in Indiana.  Farmhouses and 'whatever works' houses :)

Ugh

So the computer repair place took my laptop back, shipped it off.. and i got a call yesterday.  They want to replace the motherboard.  I had to call them back and explain to them that if they wanted to replace the motherboard again, they could certainly do so. at their own cost.

Communication seems to be lacking everywhere, not just at my work.

ugh.

Bad day today

The good days are getting few and far between now.  I need to start working on my resume.  You'd think a company would value 30 years of experience, but apparently not.

Resting

The fair yesterday was pretty draining, so today was a day of rest.  Some gaming, some tv.  Tomorrow is for all the chores - groceries, laundry, and so on.  And to not try and think about work.

Yeah, that's probably not going to happen.  But I can hope :)

Home again

Almost unpacked, but not mentally really ready to go back to work.  Even though I went today, my heart wasn't really in it.

Which is sad, because some of the things I learned at the camp were good things to use.  We do have the fair to look forward to this weekend.

Progress?

Got maybe a third of the saplings behind the garage in the alley down.  Still have a ways to go.  Also need to do the side of the house.  I'm in such poor shape, a half hour and I'm wiped out.

Still don't have my laptop back either.  Getting a little anxious.  I want it back before I leave for denver.

Sunday, August 7, 2016

Well, that's the end of that

Didn't do much as vacations go, other than the reunion.  Played games, watched tv... did manage to go to the movies yesterday though, so that was something.

The computer shop did get my motherboard replaced, but they also had to order a new battery.  so another chunk of money, and another 4-5 days.  At least I'll have it back before my trip!

Satellite fixed?

We'll see.  The tech that came out today suspected that the surge protector was messing with the voltage the sat cable needed to carry the signal, and that's what was causing the signal loss.

Not sure about the channel changing - he just blamed it on the fact it's an old standard definition receiver.  I'll give it a week before I call it 'fixed'.

Almost done

This time off/vacation has really flown, and I haven't done much.  Which, i guess is what vacation is all about.

One more day

till vacation.

Next week, i'm going to have to call directv again.  the receiver in the study keeps losing signal, even after they 'fixed' it last time.

Makes it hard to watch a show or a movie when the channel changes to the byu channel in the middle. :(

Laptop news

Got a call from the techs...it was the motherboard.  it's going to cost over 700.00 to replace it.  cheaper than a new one, but dang. that's a lot of money. :(

Less Heat

That's something.  Didn't do much yesterday, or today. We did some grocery shopping today, and a little laundry.  I played on the computer, we watched some tv, and that was it.

Probably ought to be thinking about getting ready for the trip this weekend.   Could be an interesting visit!

It's hot

I am not a fan of extreme heat.  I'm glad we have a decent air conditioner, but going outside makes me feel like I've melted as soon as I step outside the door.

Just a few months, and it'll be freezing cold.  So I guess there's no winning.

Work is frustrating

Especially the part where people up at the top, who have no clue how things are done, want more work done faster with less people.

This isn't Harry Potter, where you can just wave a wand and things get done.

bah. maybe i should be in upper management - then everything would be easy, because someone else has to do it.

Failure is not an option

Yes it is.  It may not be an acceptable option, but it an option.  I'm hearing the phrase all over the place, and it's starting to annoy me.

Can you tell?

Busy Day

Got up this morning, chopped down some of the saplings in the backyard and along the garage in the alley.  Then took the laptop to get it checked out and hopefully repaired - 40 bucks just to start.  Then we did some grocery shopping, then to the midtown market to check it out.  We had some lamb and goat dishes for lunch, then home for a little bit, then off to the movies to see Independence Day 2, then we drove home in the rain.

Busy day for a Saturday.  Ideally, tomorrow will just be dishes and laundry.  No running aroud.

Better and Better

The laptop won't charge.  I'm going to have to take it in, and have it looked at.  Based on the couple things I've found on the internet, i think it's going to need a new motherboard.  I don't know if my protection package has expired yet.  I hope not.

It's getting old...

...or maybe I am.  I have no fun at work, especially when 2/3 of the team is gone, there are people on the team who are clueless, and others who are just pains to work with.

There's one guy that seriously cannot finish a single sentence.  He talks in partial sentences all run together, making it hard to understand and communicate with.  Others are in charge of a system they know nothing about, and don't want to learn about it.

I have to deal with idiot drivers to and from work - almost got hit today due to someone not paying attention and not caring.

So much to do at home, but I can't do it because I spend so much time at work.

Like I said, it's getting old.

For the record

"Wherefore" means "why", not "where".

If people are going to use words, they should know what those words mean.

Home

4 day weekend, and it's over.  Friday I had the day off, just because.  Tried to get the windshield fixed on the Element, and found out Abra doesn't take drive-ins.  They're all mobile, so I came home and made an appointment...for next Friday.  So Friday, I just played Civ 5 all day.  Saturday we did our shopping, Sunday we went to the casino.

We ended up with a free hotel room, and walked away with about 90 dollars, so that was a good thing.  We saw the fireworks from a great seat, although we ended up getting ash all over us. We went and gambled a little more, then went to bed about 1.

We came home today, and since we were so so tired from staying up late, we kind of napped throughout the day, and watched a little tv before dinner.  And we'll probably go to bed early.  Although we do have to do some laundry so I have clean clothes for work :)

Tuesday, June 28, 2016

Well,this sucks

The folks that have been laid off have reached their final days.  Starting today and through the rest of the week, they hit their last day and they're gone.

Some of them are actual friends.

Stupid corporate cheapskates.

Bleh

I'm getting so sick of some of the people I have to work with.  Some lazy, some people with no critical thinking skills, some people with no off switch...

So tired of it.

Saturday

Went to MOA yesterday.  Forgot that a lot of walking bothers my knee.  Paid for it for the rest of the afternoon.

Did pick up some dvds that were on sale at least.  And the place wasn't too crowded.  But my knee kind of prevented enjoying the experience.  I need to pay off the evaluation before I can have the surgery though, and that was two grand :(

I hate city drivers

Can't stay in their lane, can't drive below the speed limit, can't use turn signals...

ugh.  I guess that's one drawback to living in a big city.

1,011

That's how many emails I had waiting for me this morning.  And a meeting right when I walked in.

Good thing about today - the email servers went down about 1130, and didn't come up till almost 2.  That gave me a few hours where I could read, delete and/or file the ones that came while I was out, without the distractions of more coming in that needed to be dealt with 'right now'.

So there was that.  Then I came home, had a baked potato for dinner, and I think it was bad, because I have not been feeling well since. :(

Sunday, June 12, 2016

Well, that's that.

Back to work tomorrow.  I can only imagine what's waiting for me.  Well, really, I don't want to imagine.  I really don't want to go back, but I kind of have to.

Could have used another week or two of vacation. :)

Back

I had to remember my password :)

Today was the 4th day of my little 'stay-cation'.  I've been pretty good about not connecting with work this time.  I peeked Monday night which kind of messed up my day Tuesday, but I've stayed away since then.  The idea is to take a break, get a mental reset out of the deal.  I have tomorrow and the weekend to keep my brain away...and I'm thinking I'm really going to need more time to get really disconnected.

Today was a busy day.  I started late, after the storms and rain had gone away.  Then I went to Menard's to get birdseed and a needle-nosed pliers.  Then I came home, pulled the leaky valves out of the tub with the new pliers. Then I left to go to the plumbing supply store to get new valves.  Came back home, put the new valves in.  still have a drip. :(  but it's better than the leak we had at least.  and I couldn't get the pipe cover all the way back on, so I don't know.  I may have to call a plumber anyway.

Then I left home again, and went to the comic book store, got a few, then went to BW3's for lunch.  then I came home for the rest of the day.  I watched some episodes of ST TNG till T came home, then we went out for dinner at Culvers.  Then we came home again, watched the news and Hawaii 5-0.  Then she went to bed and I watched chopped and then reset the dish so I could watch cutthroat kitchen - it was missing from the list but a reset brought it back.

For being on vacation, I did quite a bit today :)
